Restaurants I love
Here are a few restaurants I absolutely adore, they are in no particular order as it is hard to pick the « best ».
Schloss Berg, Christian Bau, Nennig, Germany – One of the world’s most experienced diners calls this the best restaurant in the world at this moment. For me it is always a long expected moment to go back to Nennig and eat some of Christian Bau’s brilliant food. His dishes are so perfect, it is hard to argue with anything. In addition, the wine list is cheap, service is superb and the place is beautiful. A MUST visit.
Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athenee, Christophe Moret, Paris, France – For anyone who wants to eat absolutely mind-blowing French haute cuisine. The room is one of the most beautiful in the world, the service is exceptional, and the food out of this world. Let Christophe Moret choose and have the time of your life.
Le Louis XV Alain Ducasse, Pascal Bardet, Monte Carlo, Monaco – Is it the « simplest » food in any 3* in the world? It certainly has some of the finest ingredients in Europe, and does as little as possible to let them shine. A more grand dining room is hardly imaginable, and a more legendary wine list too.
The Ledbury, Brett Graham, London, UK – Exciting, relaxed, always technically perfect: This is the finest restaurant in London, and arguably the UK (although the Sportsman is a close rival). The wine list is remarkably reasonable, the service could not be more welcoming and Brett’s food is pure joy. I love it, and go as often as I can.
The Sportsman, Stephen Harris, Seasalter, UK
Stephen’s food is simple, a product, a condiment and maybe a garnish that’s all he needs to make brilliant food. A lunch here is a perfect day out, and the whole experience is just magical. People travel to this pub from all over the world, and for good reason! Don’t expect any fancy china or so, but the most enjoyable, laid back dining experience one can have. I can’t say how much I adore this restaurant.
Hertog Jan, Gert de Mangeleer, Brugge, Belgium – Discovered this restaurant recently and can’t say how much I was surprised about the food here. The food is light, fresh, clean and incredibly well constructed. Wine-wise, Joachim, takes good care of you, and serves a number of wines you are most likely to not know. A real gem.
