Roland, Sea Grill is definitely on the to-do-list. Although there's a lot on that!
Truffe Noire looks like the place I'd never go to. But well, with good truffles, even a simple pasta is worth a few stars (if it's well made...)

As for Nancy, you should definitely go to Hertog Jan. A fabulous restaurant. I have a post on it too on the blog. It's not as well known as Oud SLuis for instance, but I thought that it was at least as good as that. Plus, the team there is really great, so you'll have a smashing time!

De kromme Watergang also gets quite a lot of good news. THat might be interesting for you? I don't know.

Let me know if you go to either of them!

Thanks for the info. We have been to C-Jean and plan to return. Jason was a lovely host and we would like to see how he has developed in the past year. We also plan to visit Hertog Jan. We were also thinking about De Jonkman, also in Brugges. Have you been or would you suggest an alternative?

Nancy,
other Flemish Foodies are
Jason Blanckaert/C-Jean* in Gent
Olly De Ceulenaere/Volta in Gent opening next week Tuesday

One of the "special guests" of the Flemish Foodies was Gert De Mangeleer/Hertog Jan** in Brugge. Together with In de Wulf our 2 favourite restaurants in Belgium. Certainly worthwhile the detour

Need more info, just let me now.

Felix, I was also curious as to whether you have been to the restaurants of the other "Flemish Foodies" or "Flemish Primatives" in Ghent or Brugges? We were thinking of combining our visit to In de Wulf with meals with Kobe's peers in the surrounding area. What do you think about that idea?

I definitely think the following restaurants should have 2 stars :

BON BON
LI CWERNEU
LE COQ AUX CHAMPS

also probably PRIEURE ST GERY but he had a bad year with the loss of his sommelier.

I also think SEA GRILL should have the third, since the renovation, Yves Mattagne is more and more in the house, like he has never been before and my two last meals there were just PERRRR-FECT

I think it was probably a little early to give the 2nd to NUANCE, my meal there was good but not great especially the main course.

Restaurants who should definitely NOT have any stars are LA TRUFFE NOIRE, a total rip-off, and I personnally have serious doubts on Pouic-Pouic (great looks, but...) La Frairie (one poor meal this year) and Jacques Marit (very old fashioned). GaultMillau is much more critic on these, and their texts also give much info than the red guide.

Nancy,

hope you enjoy it! Should be fabulous in July, with great weather.

and Roland, I will have a look at that place, haven't heard of it. But yes, some places are indeed not really worthy of a star or the like. But well...

Felix,
if any, I'd say Schone van Boskoop/Chef Wouter Keersmaekers.
He was one of the first Belgian Chefs to re-introduce forgotten vegetables and turned them into gastronomic festivities.
On the other hand, I can come up with a few 2* in Belgium that are in no way a match for Kobe's talent, inspiration and passion. Life's a b***

Philippe, I agree with you partially, but if he would think he is the greatest, that might lead to something like what happened with Yannick Alleno: He rests on his success, and doesn't evolve that much. Kobe still has a lot of potential I think, so yes, let#s all go there and help him to become better and better as he did so far!

Roland, that is true! It is quite special if you can fill such a resto up in a place so far away from everything! But, it can't hurt if a second star would come. Do you think there are other restos who should have received 2* in Belgium?
